A touch of paradise in rural France

Enjoy the history and beauty of the Poitou-Charentes in comfort

Why Les Roches?

Les Roches is within easy access of the N10, a slice of paradise in amongst the rugged beauty of the Poitou-Charentes region. With easy access to popular destinations such as Futuroscope, The Valley of the Monkeys, Chateau Verteuil, Angouleme, Niort, Poitiers and La Rochelle. Les Roches is the perfect base if you're just travelling through as it is situated 5 mins from the N10 which runs all the way down to the south of France and Spain. Poitiers airport is 35 min north on the N10 and flights run from London Stansted 3 times a week. We are also pet friendly and have 2 small dogs of own.

Explore the Poitou-Charentes region

Head to the nearby town of Chaunay and enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by or head to some of the historic local towns such as Verteuil-sur-Charente to explore the Chateau and restaurants. Civray is 20 mins away with a few restaurants and bars and the town of Couhe is 10 mins away where our favorite local restaurant is 'Melkins' and they serve the best pizza I've ever eaten! There's also bars, boulangeries and vets, dentist and doctors and a couple of supermarkets with petrol stations also. We also have lots of fishing lakes and kayaking on our doorstep. There's so much to see and do.

The accommodation offers 2 double bedrooms, a shower room, kitchen and living area. A mezzanine offers additional space or sleeping for 2 above the living space.

The gardens extend for several acres with areas to sit and enjoy the peace. There are no shortage of places to relax.

A heated pool provides enterntainment and relaxation for all ages. It's a real sun trap and also offers an outside shower.

A warm welcome. Amanda and Brad welcome you to their Gite and hope you will enjoy your stay.

The gite is more like a home from home with all the necessary facilities. Two very spacious and lovely bedrooms with an extra 2 single beds on the mezzanine above the main living area, a comfortable lounge, and a very well fitted out kitchen. Bathroom and shower are on the ground floor, plenty of outdoor space which is another plus for the gite to make your holiday most enjoyable.

The gite is stunning, in October we are enjoying the real fire after a day of sunshine in nearby historical Poitiers! The bed is so comfy, stayed in many James villas properties where this wasn’t the case. The gite owners left wine which was a lovely touch. Everything has been furnished to a high end, we are looking forward to revisiting. Next time when we stay longer we would love to visit La Rochelle and Bordeaux

My wife Melanie Taylor and I stayed at Les Roches Gite and were wonderfully hosted by Amanda and Graham. The Gite is so spacious and the beds are so comfy and everything is in place for relaxing, walking, cycling, water sports and so much more in this beautiful area of France. Poitier is a wonderful city and the easiest airport I've ever flown in and out of. Roads to the Gite are so easy and direct with little traffic. I guess we should thank the Romans for the road, but the history and story of this area are legend. Richard the Lionheart's or Coeur de Lion's mother was from Poitier and we visited Eleanor of Aquitaine's palace and Cathedral, walked by the river and had lunch at the delightful Maurice's Restaurant. On arrival at the Gite we took full advantage of the opportunity of the welcome pack, so there was no need for any last minute shopping on the date of arrival. French bread, Wine, beers, Jam, Coffee and dairy etc. all sourced from local producers were provided for a very reasonable cost. We also took advantage of Amanda's outstanding menu they have available for lazy evenings where we didn't want to cook or eat out. The Chicken, Leek and rosemary pie were baked and delivered to us and the food was sheer perfection. Bikes are available for leisurely cycle rides to nearby Chaunay, for Coffee or a beer at the Cafe des Sports and there's also football pitches and tennis courts for the family. There's so much to visit and see in the car, as the Gite is so central. Verteuil Sur Charente is just stunning and shouldn't be missed. The place is picture perfect and Kayak heaven. Bordeaux, Cognac, Limoges and La Rochelle are within easy drives along effortless roads through stunning scenery. When we finally got time to just be in the moment at the Gite, sun kissed afternoons at the Gites pool and terrace area couldn't have been better. What an absolutely stunning place. We'll be back!

Nous avons trouve un excellent gite avec des hotes tres prevenants et attentionnes. La proprete, les petites attention (viennoiseries, vin, fleurs), le feu, la decoration font tous le charme des Roches.N'hesitez pas a reserver!

Outstanding Gite in rural setting. we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing here and wish we could have stayed longer. Wonderful welcome from Amanda and Graham with a roaring log fire and a selection of much appreciated goodies. Spotlessly clean and very beautifully decorated. Great shower too. Excellent if you have a dog travelling with you as the large garden is enclosed and there is a secure field directly accessed behind for a walk. The pool and summer kitchen looked lovely too but we were staying in mid November. Highly recommend this gite. I can honestly say it's the nicest Airbnb we have stayed in to date. Thanks, hope to see you again in the spring.
